Living in Student Accommodation
Each semester, the Student Services Paderborn (German: Studierendenwerk Paderborn, short: STW) reserves a limited number of rooms in its halls of residence for exchange students. These students are usually accommodated in single-sex shared apartments for two or four people, mostly in the smaller buildings on Vogeliusweg near the campus.
Each resident has their own room, which is furnished with a bed, a wardrobe, a desk, and a chair. The kitchen and bathroom are shared with the other students.
The monthly rent, including utilities, ranges from EUR 370 to 400. In addition, there is a one-time payment of EUR 400 for the deposit, which includes a final fee of EUR 110. Prices are subject to change.
Please note: Dorm rooms are generally rented only for full months. When determining your rental period, you should consider some time for settling in and bare in mind that exams may sometimes fall outside the semester.
Application Process
If you are interested in a room offer from the Studierendenwerk Paderborn, please indicate this in your online application in the Mobility Online Portal under ¡°Accommodation.¡± You will receive the access link for your online application once your home university has nominated you and your nomination has been accepted.
Please note: It is not possible to apply directly to the STW. The International Office will forward your room request along with your details, but is not involved in the actual allocation process.
If a room is available, you will receive an offer from the STW Housing Administration in due course. In the email, you will be asked to check the offer and to confirm it. Any requests for changes to the lease term after the fact must be discussed with STW before accepting the offer. After that, changes to the contract details are no longer possible.
Good to know: In any case, you will receive a response from STW letting you know whether a room is available. Please check your inbox regularly, and your spam folder if necessary.

Own apartment or room in a private shared a apartment (WG)
Living here offers the opportunity to live in closer contact with Germans, including non-students. If you would like to move into your own apartment or live in a shared apartment with locals, you will have to find accommodation yourself.
In Germany, many students live in shared flats.
Each resident has their own room, while the bathroom and kitchen are shared. In addition to the rent, a deposit of approximately one to two months' rent must usually be paid in advance. This will be refunded when you move out, provided that no damage has been caused to the room during the rental period.
Rental prices depend on the size of the room, the location, and how many other students share the apartment. They range from approximately €400 to €500 (subject to change) per month.
Please note: As accommodation in university towns is generally limited, it is advisable to start looking early. To register with the Paderborn Residents' Registration Office, you will need a Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung (landlord's certificate) from your landlord or the main tenant of the shared apartment.
